My Thoughts on Recent Events

Will Smith at the Oscars? Childish. Plain and simple. When I worked at elementary schools, we were constantly trying to teach kids that you don’t solve conflicts with physical violence. Apparently, Mr. Smith still hasn’t learned these lessons.

And for all those celebrities who are defending his actions as some kind of noble “standing up for your woman” thing? No. Still not buying that whole “words are violence” nonsense. If you truly believe the man insulted your wife or loved one, pull him aside and have words with him. Don’t jump to physical retaliation as your first response. Or so I used to tell kindergarteners.

Worst of all, I feel sorry for all the award winners whose accomplishments were ignored by the media while they focused all their attention on one man’s poor behavior.

So, Lia Thomas is an NCAA champion swimmer. And why did we allow this to happen? Because “she” identifies as a woman. I don’t agree. I don’t think she wants to identify as a woman, not an average, ordinary woman, anyway. I think she wants to identify as a woman standing on an awards platform with a gold medal draped around her neck.

I understand that transgender athletes still have a desire to compete, but seriously, fair is fair. And watching some of these male-to-female trans athletes dominate, it’s obvious that the situations are extremely unfair, to say the least.

Glad to see that there are still some people around willing to express their outrage at the Deshaun Watson trade. As I said in a previous blog A Writer's Life: Go (ADWFTH) Texans! (rdperryauthor.blogspot.com), as a Texans fan, I’m happy to see him gone. I’m still shocked that Cleveland was so desperate for his talents that they were completely able to overlook his obvious baggage. Whatever happened to believing the woman?

Even more disappointing is to see someone get SO incredibly rewarded for his own bad behavior.

Could the President (and Vice President) be more incompetent? At least, Joe Biden has cognitive decline as an excuse for his constant gaffes, but Kamala Harris? She just seems so ill-prepared. All the time. And the cackling? I thought Hillary Clinton was hard to watch, but I think Harris is even more annoying.

***

Congrats to Ketanji Brown Jackson who will likely be our newest Supreme Court Justice. Sincerely. She seems to be competent and qualified, and although I disagree with almost all of her Liberal Left-wing beliefs, the Democrats have the votes, and she will surely get confirmed. Based on all his previous appointees and nominations, did anyone think the President would not choose a radical leftist for the position? Elections have consequences. Just look at the price of gasoline.

***

The New York Times now admits that the laptop is Hunter Biden’s and the stuff found on it is legit. Does the media care? Apparently not. If you want to know how to steal/influence an election, consider how the media hides true stories that could damage a particular candidate, while constantly publishing stories that end up being false.

Just before the 2012 Obama/Romney Presidential election, the media completely misrepresented the truth about Benghazi. What could have been a huge scandal for the Obama administration was completely brushed off as a spontaneous attack, and not a terrorist attack on our embassy.

Of course, watching him in the Senate the past few years, I shudder to think what a terrible President Mitt would have been!

For all the ignorant and uninformed who insist on protesting about things they don’t even understand, the new Florida law has nothing to do with saying the word gay. Seriously people, get a clue. What the new law actually says is that children in grades K-3 should not be taught about sexual orientation and gender identity, and all the adult stuff we waste time debating.

So, honestly, if you think children this age should be taught about sex and gender, what the hell is wrong with you? Elementary schools should be teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic. Just my opinion, but social issues should not be the focus of public education. Especially to our youngest students.

***

Meanwhile in Texas, Beto (fake Hispanic) O’Rourke is already accusing Governor Abbott of voter suppression. Again, for the ignorant and uninformed, if you can’t prove who you are, and that you are a citizen, you don’t get to vote. Simple. Voter ID laws are not racist. They are essential to election integrity. My opinion.

Back to the Oscars. Sorry for those of you who think The Power of the Dog didn’t win enough Oscars. (Personally, I didn’t care for the movie.) I haven’t seen so many gay Cowboys crying since Brokeback Mountain failed to win Best Picture!

Seriously, I pray I never lose my sense of humor. Or the ability to laugh at myself. Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Go (ADWFTH) Texans!

I’m not really a fan of the NFL anymore. Honestly, the only complete game I’ve watched in the last three years was the Tom Brady/Bucs Super Bowl win. Other than that, the most I’ve done is check the scores and watch a few highlight videos on slow Mondays.

Mostly, I got fed up with all the non-football crap that has taken over the league. I want to watch the games, not be lectured on social issues. Sorry, but if I want Liberal propaganda, I’ll watch CNN. Or the network news.

Anyway, I still follow the news, and specific players, and certain teams. My Houston Texans would be my favorite, and of course, I’m a diehard Dallas Cowboy hater! So with the decline of the Texans (and the success of the Cowboys, until they choked in the playoffs, no surprise!), last season was hard to watch. And who do I blame for the Texans decline? Deshaun Watson.

Bill O’Brien is gone, along with his horrible personnel decisions and several really good players. With a new coach and GM, we could have been competitive, until we lost our franchise quarterback. Nothing like paying somebody millions of dollars while they sit home on the couch and don’t play. And why did the team do that? Because he demanded a trade and refused to play.

And why did he demand a trade? Because he wanted to have input on the hiring of the new GM and the next coach. I could write an entire article on my opinions of pro athletes who want to tell the team owners how to do their jobs. Hello, LeBron James, and Aaron Rodgers, just to name a few. Anyway, rumors were already spreading about the real problems he was about to face.

What happens when your franchise quarterback allegedly sexually harasses/assaults 22 women? One would think trading a player under such circumstances would be difficult, right? But Watson is good. And young. And a quarterback. And besides the NFL investigation is on the back burner. No suspensions yet. Many teams were interested. Only the threat of criminal charges made them wary. Even Roger Goodell would have to respond to that.

So, teams waited. And Watson sat. And collected money from the Texans. And of course, denied everything, while the number of accusers went higher and higher.

I don’t know all the facts. I haven’t read all the complaints. Or the police statements. All I know is his denials don’t meet the smell test. The whole situation stinks. And common sense leads me to believe that Watson is likely a sexual predator who committed these acts. The alternative is that all these women are lying. I don’t buy it.

Anyone actually believe that professional sports teams don’t provide all the medical/physical therapy that star players need or require? Why would any NFL franchise QB be searching Instagram for private massage therapists? And who goes through 22 different therapists in a year constantly replacing the previous one who refuses to come back? Doesn’t smell right.

Personally, I don’t get massages. I’m not sure about the procedures. Maybe I’m looking at things all wrong. But if the towel slips and you “accidentally” expose yourself, that’s got to be a rare (and embarrassing) occurrence, right? And “accidentally” moving the wrong way and touching the therapist with your genitals? Rare, right? But if something like that happens 22 times with 22 different (always female) therapists? Doesn’t really sound like an accident, does it? Sounds more like a pattern to me.

Anyway, a criminal investigation led to a grand jury which chose not to indict Watson on criminal charges. He still faces a possible civil trial, or he’ll settle and pay a few million to make the whole thing go away. Should be easy with a new contract that pays him $230 million over the next five years.

Sadly, his old contract had a no-trade clause which allowed him to basically choose where he could be traded. So, while the team loses games, and coaches, and respect, he gets to go shopping in the NFL candy store and pick the best team that will have him. Surprisingly, there were many choices. So what if you’re a sexual predator, if you can play, they’ll take you! Congrats Cleveland. I’m sure all the massage therapists in Ohio are excited to have a potential new client coming to town.

Okay, I could go on, but I’m too disgusted to continue. (Check out this article if you want to read all the gory details. Deshaun Watson allegations: A timeline of numerous lawsuits against Houston Texans quarterback - ABC7 Chicago) As a Texans fan, I’m glad he’s gone. Maybe all those draft picks we scored in the trade can help us rebuild. And hopefully, the next “face of the franchise” will be less of an embarrassment to the city and the team.

(Away Deshaun Watson from the Houston) In case you couldn’t figure that one out! LOL.

Is the President Really Doing a Good Job?

I read recently that following his State of the Union address, President Biden’s approval ratings jumped almost 8 points! Wow! My honest reaction? What the hell is wrong with you people?

I mean, I know that most of those who have so easily been swayed to change their minds are Liberal Democrats, but seriously? You really believe that our country is doing great all of a sudden just because the President was able to read successfully from the teleprompter and appear relatively coherent for an hour?

Most of the fans cited his handling of the Ukraine situation and approve of his dealings with Putin. Again, seriously? Have they forgotten completely that the root cause of Putin’s action is his realization of how weak our country has become under this administration? Putin may not have respected Trump, but he feared him, at least enough not to invade the Ukraine while he was President. Obviously, he has no respect or fear of our current leadership. Not since Jimmy Carter was President has our reputation in the world been so low. And of course, our billions of dollars sent to Russia to buy oil have virtually funded the invasion.

Speaking of oil, even though he’s now decided not to buy anymore from Putin, does anyone actually believe his claims that his policies have nothing to do with gas prices? We are once again dependent on foreign countries for oil and gas, and that is entirely on this administration which has waged war on our own country’s energy industry from day one.

As usual, the President is taking full credit for conquering the Covid pandemic. Yea! No more masks, no more mandates. Of course, the sheep have ignored the latest from the CDC which basically says now that the masks and mandates had virtually no effect on the virus. Other than crippling our economy, killing off tons of small businesses, and putting millions of people out of work. And now that some of those people are finally able to return to their jobs, Biden is proudly claiming that he has “created” millions of jobs!

And did he mention the border? Barely, and even then, he claims it’s stronger than ever. Really? Does anyone actually believe that?

But never fear. Transportation Secretary Pete has the solution. If you can’t afford gas, just buy an electric car. Latest estimates put the average price at just under $60,000. I’m sure the average American can afford that, right? And Kamala is heading to Poland to fix the Ukraine problem. You know, just like she fixed the border crisis.

So, soaring gas prices, runaway inflation, wide open border, and a potential war in Europe coming, but somehow we’re supposed to believe that our President is doing a great job and all is well with our country. Sorry, but speeches are one thing, reality is another. Some of you need to wake up and realize what’s going on.
